PAINTING BEAUTIFUL SKIES

Monday, October 10th 10:00-3:00

Instructor: Julie Friedman $80.00

The sky is the soul and light of a painting. So much that we think or feel can be described by the sky that we paint and the colors that we use. This workshop will focus on all elements of the sky… the power it holds to create mood, the way that it pushes and pulls space, the role it plays in supporting strong composition, and how to build it to create atmosphere. Just by changing the color of the sky, you can completely alter the feeling of a painting. Come explore it!

CAPTURING THE LIGHT IN OIL AND PASTEL

There is nothing more exciting than the presence of light in a painting. This workshop will focus on how to do this effectively. By exploring a wide range of values and temperatures, you can maximize the power that light can give to a subject matter or focal point. The end result is a painting that makes a strong statement that is alive and vibrant… and it is so much fun to punch up the light!!!

RECONNECTING WITH YOUR CREATIVITY

The creative spirit ebbs and flows. All artists struggle with periods of low creativity and inspiration. When it hits, we feel lost and fearful that we wont find our way to the next painting. This workshop will present several ways to stimulate our creativity, to open up our thoughts to different ideas and compositions that will get us excited to jump into the next painting! HOW TO LOOSEN UP USING COLOR AND SHAPE IN OIL

This workshop is for anyone who is looking to loosen up their paintings and learn how to “go with the flow.” Time and time again, we fall into the trap of careful mark making in the pursuit of the perfect painting. This workshop will throw all that out the window 🙂 We will learn how to allow our instincts and honest reactions to guide us through a painting built on paint flow and accidental marks. This workshop will be liberating and freeing for sure!

BUILDING REPRESENTATIONAL PAINTINGS BASED ON ABSTRACTED SHAPES AND COLOR

All well executed paintings are based on well-placed, simplified shapes that create interesting and balanced negative space. This workshop will help you see your composition in those terms and teach you how to build and refine those simple shapes to bring your painting up to the level of representation that you desire. Abstraction is a continuum and all strong compositions are based on its principles. We will explore how to use it to build your paintings. THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR ALL MEDIUMS

USING ALTERNATIVE COLOR IN YOUR PAINTING

Monday, December 5th 10:00-3:00

How often do you wish that you could break your color vocabulary and use alternative color to describe what you are painting? This workshop will focus on how to successfully replace expected, local color with exciting, unexpected color choices. By exploring different color options, you open up an infinite range of palette possibilities that will impact the power of your painting to evoke emotion. This workshop is a wonderful opportunity to expand your color vocabulary!
